We soon travel south, 18 miles north of Mexico, to Pena Blanca Lake, a reservoir (not many true lakes in this driest desert). The lake destination is unique and a contrast to the otherwise sun-baked landscape. Water is wonderful out here; the more, the better. For all its serenity it generates incredible activity which holds attention for a very long time. Our class is geared up for practice in the field to create new material and bring insight to ongoing work; on canvas and paper, in wet and dry media with words and images.
This site should be both relaxing and exciting with an abundance of migratory and local birds, bugs and flora at 4000 ft., a higher elevation than Tucson. It’s always good to get out-of-town for a change of perspective.
