Empire Ranch: Trees,Texture and Trivia

Empire Ranch is an easy plein air destination. Drive east on interstate 10, turn right onto Scenic Route 83, then left into Las Cienegas National Conservation area, a 12,000 acre site with Empire Ranch, a  landmark which dates to 1870.

Cottonwood trees need hundreds (thousands?) of gallons of water per day to thrive.

Cienega creek still provides.

Moist air rises through the trees enhancing atmospheric perspective. Que abstract!

The ranch house is rich with texture, pattern, cast shadow and linear perspective.
