Drawing With Color Part 2: #7 High Key

Choose a split complementary combination. The rose has a yellow and cool pink cast so I’ll make  yellow determine the split: red-violet and blue-violet.

High key light is bright and floods the subject leaving no strong contrast;  like an overexposed photograph. Notice this palette contains only pure hues, tints and two light grays. You’ll also need a soft white.

Make a line drawing indicating lost and found edges, silhouette and shapes of light. Use a neutral tone.

Build a gray scale with light and medium gray showing shadows and highlights.  Add one color at a time.

Blue-violet:
