Above average rainfall is giving everyone an excuse to blossom.

We skirt the steep mountain on a narrow winding road, something unexpected around every hairpin turn.

Katrina Lasko, study

We go up-up-up and down-down-down and finally, turn around…to discover a little canyon with bubbling water and a few other surprises!

Katrina observes this lichen covered rock, while I check out the blooming sotol yucca.

With acrylic, clean water is important. I save dirty water in plastic bottles, and later dump it into a bucket outside to evaporate.

The sound of the water moves the brush along.

But not this water, ew!

On the way out of the little canyon we find a flooded mine with a scary sign posted in the bushes…there are over 1,500 mines in Arizona.

Thank you over-power flower!

  1. Absolutly beautiful! Where were you? We have received minimal rainfall here in the foothills of the Catalinas–maybe an inch! Our cacti are emaciated and there are dead shrubs and trees everywhere! Where were you?

I am leaving for a short trip to Calif. for birthday celebrations and then I’ll be back, hopefully to begin to paint again.

    • Elena,
Right! It’s sad, Tucson is below average but the Santa Rita’s are above! We are at the base of Mount Hopkins, south of Mount Wrightson. It is so green and lush, it’s hard to believe. Happy celebrations!
