Mad About Madera

Out in Madera Canyon we get the big picture…

The not-so-so-big picture…

…and the little picture…perhaps one you’d rather not see.  Unless you like creepy crawlies, I hope!

Look closely…can you find the bug?

Whoa! Didn’t see that one coming. This is the horned caterpillar of the ….Citheronia royal splendens moth. It will be chocolate colored with red wing veins. It is big (5″ wing span) and lives only to reproduce. Unfortunately to see it one must be out at 2 o’clock in the morning…so look online! I will make you a painting soon. Stay tuned.

Now, back to the big picture.

Elephant Head follows me around like the Mona Lisa’s eyes, just gonna have to paint this thing and be done with it!

Times up. I’ll take this back to the studio and build up some texture.

Can’t forget the multitude of Interpretive signage down here at the Gazebo. My favorite chuckle is the upside down upside down Big Brown Bats…

Katrina has missed my bug discoveries, lucky her! She spent the morning in the actual canyon with the giant oaks.
